Getting Started with your PC
Taking
your first steps on a PC?
Don't worry - we've all been there. Most of us have learned through trial and (a lot of) error.
But you can take a faster track. Let us show you the basics - and maybe a few useful hints that will save you a lot of time and worry.
As usual, what you learn, in what order and how quickly, is up to you.
But here are a few of the things we normally cover:
* The main parts of the computer - Screen, Keyboard, Mouse, Processor....
* Starting up - and shutting down
* User accounts and "Logging On"
* A quick tour around your computer desktop - icons, toolbars, and all that jazz
* Programs - what they are, and how to start them
* Windows - open, minimise, restore, maximise, move, size.....
* That damn mouse! - clicking, double-clicking, dragging, scrolling, right clicking.....
* The most useful programmes - especially text editors and internet browsers
* Simple internet browsing and searching
....and anything else you need to know...
At the end of the session, you should be able to: confidently start up and shut down your PC; control simple programmes, and find things on the web.
